People Handling & Risk Assessment
Do you have to assist service users to move from one place to another? Do you work with older people or people with disabilities? The this course will help you to work safely.
What does
the course involve?
By the end of the day you will be able to:
- List relevant legislation, including Manual Handling Operations Regulatins 1992
- Communication, confidentiality and recording
- State some of the statistics of some of the manual handling injuries
- Detail the causes of back injury
- Describe the anatomy of the spine
- Describe how you will be able to avoid injuries by assessing the risks involved
- Describe lifts which must no longer be used (condemned lifts)
- Describe the range and role of small handling aids
- Explain how the use of such aids can be of benefit to you and your service users and reduce the instance of manual handline injuries
- Demonstrate how to move and handle your service users using only safe handling techniques
- State how to use a patient hoist appropriately
Your understanding will be assessed using a knowledge test and you will also be observed during the practical session to ensure thet you are able to undertake the practical tasks.

The course starts at 10am and finishe around 5pm.
